JD Sport signs for 600,000 sq ft Rochdale warehouse

Wilson Bowden Developments is to build a bespoke 616,000 sq ft warehouse for sports retailer JD Sports at its Kingsway business park in Rochdale.

The group, the commercial arm of housebuilder Barratt, confirmed the design and build project this morning. The deal was first mooted around a year ago.

The bespoke shed will also feature 250,000 sq ft of mezzanine storage space.

Canada Life has agreed to forward fund the project.

Nick Richardson, managing director of Wilson Bowden Developments, said: ““Not only is this a great step forward in the development of this scheme in a difficult market, but it is also provides evidence of confidence returning to the High Street, which is important to our town centre regeneration programme.”

The development, which was given planning permission in January 2009, will start on site in June and is due for completion in February 2011.

P3 acted for Wilson Bowden; Cushman & Wakefield advised JD; Gerald Eve acted for Canada Life. Pinsent Masons provided legal advice to Wilson Bowden.
