JD Sports has taken a step into Central and Eastern Europe with the acquisition of a majority stake in a Polish sports fashion retailer.
The deal will see JD Sports take a 60% holding in Marketing Investment Group, a Krakow-based business with 410 stores that generated revenue of £200m during 2019.
MIG is currently owned by brothers Andrzej and Zbigniew Grząka. JD Sports expects to close the deal by the end of May.
JD Sports chairman Peter Cowgill said the acquisition would “further build on the success of our international development strategy, expanding our operations into Central and Eastern Europe”.
