JD Sports set to open at Westfield Stratford’s Topshop store

JD Sports will open a new shop at Topshop’s former store at Westfield Stratford City, in addition to its existing store there.

The sportswear chain has signed a 10-year lease for the 31,000 sq ft store. Westfield has confirmed that the retailer has also renewed the lease on its smaller, existing store at the centre.

The deal will expand JD’s existing footprint at the complex to total more than 40,000 sq ft, across two stores.

Keith Mabbett, director of leasing for UK and Italy at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, said: “We have been working closely with JD Sports to identify the best space to meet their growing needs to create a flagship store.

“The expansion demonstrates the success of JD Sports, with high demand for the brand and the increasing trend for retailers’ stores to create larger footprints at our centres. We have no doubt the new store will be hugely successful with our shoppers.”

Arcadia had decided to close its Topshop/Topman flagship at the centre, since the lease was reaching expiry. It opened in 2011.
