A £35m mixed-use scheme to redevelop Sheffield’s Wards Brewery has been granted planning permission.
Sheffield-based developer JF Finnegan will build 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) of offices and 132 apartments on the Ecclesfield Road site to the south west of the city centre. It hopes to take advantage of the city’s shortage of quality office space and accommodation.
The residential wing of the scheme will also include 1,486 sq m (16,000 sq ft) of retail and bars.
The site includes a number of historic buildings, including the Brewing Tower, which will be incorporated into the development.
Construction for the residential element is set to begin in October 2001 and should be completed in late 2002. The offices will follow afterwards and are expected to be completed in 2003.
