JJB Sports’ expansion will include the opening in March of a 1,950 sq m (21,000 sq ft) store on London’s Oxford Street. The company increased its selling space by 85% to 82,287 sq m (875,000 sq ft) last year. The number of stores rose more slowly from 148 to 170, because JJB expanded into larger units.
It has recently exchanged contracts on 27 new stores. Contracts on a further 11 are near to exchange, six of which will be superstores.Like-for-like sales rose 12% for the 48 weeks to December 29.
