JLL hires capital markets director in Scotland

JLL has recruited Cushman & Wakefield partner Calum Cowe as a new capital markets director.

Cowe spent eight years at Cushman & Wakefield, becoming partner in 2018. He will be based in JLL’s Edinburgh office and work on commercial property and investment acquisitions and disposals in Scotland.

He has had roles on deals including the sale of Exchange Place 1, 2 & 3 for the Scottish Widows Life Fund (now part of Aberdeen Standard Investments) and Saltire Court for Abu Dhabi Investment Authority.

He also led the purchase of Stock Exchange House in Glasgow for £33m for AEW last year in Glasgow, as well as the forward funding of the Premier Inn hotel at St Enoch Square for £31m in 2018.

Alasdair Humphery, lead director for JLL in Scotland, said: “Calum’s appointment is an important one for our business in Scotland and brings our investment team to the right size and shape to compete in the market during 2020 and beyond.”

David Davidson, chair of Scotland at Cushman & Wakefield, said: “Calum’s time with us is testament to the rapid career progression possible at Cushman & Wakefield. I’d like to thank him for his contribution to the firm.

“This is a one-off opportunity for Calum, so we wish him every success and will hopefully be doing deals with him soon.”

The news comes after JLL hired Andrew Shiells from Lambert Smith Hampton, also based in Edinburgh, as a director in November.

A four-strong team of top investment agents in JLL’s capital markets team – Chris Macfarlane, Colin Finlayson. Simon Cusiter and Richard Mackie – are understood to have resigned from JLL in September.
