JLL bolsters hotels team leadership

JLL’s hotels and hospitality team has hired CBRE investment properties director Marc Nelson and former Qbic Hotels chief investment officer Rekha Toora.

Nelson joins JLL as an executive vice president, while Toora will be a senior vice president.

Nelson will mainly be responsible for long-income and funding solutions across the agency’s EMEA hotels and hospitality group. He will also work alongside other departments in executing hotel and portfolio deals.

During Nelson’s time at CBRE, he traded more than £1bn of hotels, including the Clayton Hotel Charlemont, COMO Metropolitan Hotel, Premier Inn Westferry, Maldron Glasgow and 150 Travelodge hotel deals through both portfolio and single-asset transactions.

Toora was CIO of Qbic Hotels for nearly a year and a half, until June last year. Before that, she worked at Aprirose as vice president for real estate for just over three and a half years.

William Duffey, head of EMEA hotels and hospitality capital markets at JLL, said it is a “great time to continue growing our industry-recognised expertise by adding more talent, which will give us the tools to continue growing in the sector, as it recovers from a difficult year due to the pandemic”.

Duffey added that Toora will bring “a lot of experience in ESG, which is so important to the market right now, with hotel owners, operators, brands and management companies having a vested interest in the sustainability of their properties”.

Martin Le Grice, lead director of long income and funding solutions at JLL, highlighted “a huge influx of capital seeking to enter into the long-income market”.
