Jones Lang LaSalle’s student accommodation director Conal Newland is relocating to Australia to lead the agency’s Sydney team.
His move comes at a time when student accommodation and higher education is accelerating in Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
A JLL report said that between 2002-11 in Australia, international enrolments in higher education institutions almost doubled, with 67% coming from Asian countries alone.
Philip Hillman, lead director of the JLL student accommodation team based in London, said: “The student housing sector is becoming increasingly global, attracting investment from a wide range of markets internationally, and becoming an asset class in its own right.
“Many of our developer and operator clients operate across continents and the key investors in the sector come from across the globe.”
