JLP picks Milton Keynes for giant shed

John Lewis Partnership has chosen Nova MK in Milton Keynes for its 650,000 sq ft automated distribution centre.

Gazeley’s and Land Securities’ Nova MK is the first commercial scheme where a tariff has been agreed to fund local infrastructure (3 June, p33).

The £45m centre will open in the first half of 2009 and will handle stock now held in JLP’s Stevenage warehouse. The warehouse will be refitted and used as a storage depot for larger items.

Colliers CRE acted for JLP; Jones Lang LaSalle and Burbage Realty advised Gazeley.

Monsoon was also close to choosing the location for its 225,000 sq ft Northamptonshire requirement this week.

The retailer is favouring Rosemound and Standard Life’s DIRFT in Daventry, above Prologis’ Wellingborough, Gazeley’s Magna Park, Morley and Astral’s Swan Vallet and Perland’s Max Park.

Monsoon is expected to take a 15-year lease at DIRFT at £5 per sq ft, with a break at year 10.
