John Lewis loses interest in anchoring Croydon’s Park Place

John Lewis cast doubt this week that it would become the new anchor tenant at Minerva’s Park Place in Croydon.

The retailer is at the top of a list of potential anchors after troubled Allders gave up its right to the 343,000 sq ft (31,900 sq m) store, but sources said John Lewis feared the store would be too big and in the wrong catchment area for its customers.

A John Lewis spokeswoman said: “We’ve made no secret of our interest in Croydon but we have not found a solution there yet.”

Allders is being carved up by administrator Kroll, which has received offers for 35 of 45 stores. Debenhams and Bhs are leading the pack of bidders.
