John Lewis Partnership hires former housing association boss

John Lewis Partnership has appointed former Hanover Housing Association chief executive Dame Clare Tickell as one of two new independent directors on its board.

Tickell was chief executive at Hanover Housing Association for four years to November 2018. Her previous roles include chief executive of the Stonham Housing Association, and chief executive of charity Action for Children. She is currently a non-executive director at the National Audit Office.

She will take up the full-time role on 14 October. The retail group has also appointed partnership secretary Michael Herhily to the job, which he will take up on 3 February 2020.

The newly created roles follow a review conducted by the business in late 2018 to ensure that neither its board, chairman nor partnership council gains too much power over each other. They will sit alongside three non-executive directors.

The news comes as the John Lewis Partnership, which comprises both John Lewis and Waitrose, reportedly prepares to reveal a loss at its half-year mark when it updates the market later this week.
