John Lewis has put its Berkshire golf course up for sale as it continues its cost-cutting mission.
The retail partnership said Winter Hill Golf Club in Cookham, near Maidenhead, will close by the end of next month. It intends to sell the clubhouse and the course, which includes two residential properties, with talks already under way with Maidenhead Golf Club.
The 200-acre site was bought by the group’s founder, John Spedan Lewis, in 1938, but only turned into a golf course in 1976.
