The London Fire Brigade has lodged comments not in support of John Lewis’s plans to develop a 353-home build-to-rent development in the London Borough of Bromley, claiming smoke vents in the scheme are in the “worst possible location”.
Firefighters said the current designs risked funnelling smoke towards them during any possible rescue operation. Under current designs, the smoke ventilation system is opposite the staircase.
John Lewis said it was in “continued dialogue” with the London Fire Brigade on the plans.
There has already been opposition to the development, with a local councillor claiming the levels of affordable homes proposed (20%), was “just not acceptable”.
