Joint venture gains consent for £60m mixed-use scheme in Wrexham, Wales

Brymbo Developments – a joint venture between Parkhill Estates and John Saville Gordon – is set to develop 10.12ha (25 acres) of B1, B2 and B8 office and light industrial space as part of a £60m scheme on the former Brymbo Steelworks site near Wrexham in North Wales.

Last week, Brymbo gained detailed planning consent for the reclamation of the 95.5ha (236 acre) site and outline consent for the scheme’s office, light industrial and residential elements. A spokesperson for Brymbo said that detailed plans for the site – one of Britain’s largest derelict areas – will be submitted in two months.

Parkhill Estates’ technical director, John Thompson, confirmed that reclamation work will start next spring. Thompson also indicated that the joint venture will be applying for EU and Welsh Development Agency grants. He estimates that the scheme will take four years to develop, with construction work due to begin in two years.

Parkhill Estates acquired the freehold of the former Brymbo Steelworks three years ago.

Agents have yet to be appointed to market the scheme.
