JR granted against Bristol stadium

Campaigners against Bristol City FC’s planned 30,000-seater stadium in Ashton Vale have been granted a full judicial review hearing.

Justice Collins has granted a JR of the decision by Bristol council’s public rights of way and greens committee last June to grant village green status to only part of the Ashton Vale site where the new stadium is planned.

The football club secured full planning permission from Bristol City Council to build the new stadium in 2010.

But campaigners are questioning the process by which that outcome came about.

Collins granted permission for the review, but said: “Surely there is room for some compromise to avoid unnecessary cost and to obtain employment advantages.”
