There has been a 54% increase in the number of U.K. retailers experiencing “significant” financial distress since last Christmas, data from professional services consultancy Begbies Traynor shows.
The number of struggling retailers has risen to 24,251 from 15,792, with food and clothing retailers prominent among them, according to the data.
The number of retailers in severe “critical” distress fell 10% to 135.
