Just Eat orders up fresh London office expansion

Delivery giant Just Eat is eyeing an expansion of its workspace in the City of London, as the company seeks to accommodate its fast-growing office headcount.

Bosses at the FTSE-listed company want to increase its presence in the capital by around 30,000 sq ft, more than doubling its existing floorspace.

Just Eat occupies about 20,000 sq ft at Fleet Place House, EC4, which M&G bought in 2020 for £111m.

Built in 2000 by Gerald Ronson’s Heron International, the building forms the northern entrance to the Ludgate development and City Thameslink station.

The landlord is finishing refurbishment works on several floors of the block, freeing up further space which its tenant could decide to move into.

However, EG understands that while this remains an option, Just Eat is also looking elsewhere in the Square Mile and City Fringe, with agents at JLL advising on its office hunt.

The move makes Just Eat the latest big-name tech company to grow its presence in the capital, following similar leasing decisions by Facebook, Apple and Snapchat last year.

It comes after a bumper period for the food delivery company, which saw global orders skyrocket by a third to 1.1bn in 2021.

The UK & Ireland was the fastest-growing segment for the company, which said in a results statement last week that it would invest in its London network over the coming 12 months.

It has also announced that it will add 1,500 jobs at a new office in Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland, which will mainly be customer service roles. Those come in addition to about 2,000 existing employees in the UK, a figure which does not include its more than 4,500 couriers.

JLL and M&G declined to comment.
