Just six years to reach 1.5°C climate target

The world has less time than thought to avoid breaching the Paris agreement’s 1.5°C temperature limit, scientists have warned.

Researchers at Imperial College London said that, at the present rate of emissions, it will take about six years to exhaust the remaining “carbon budget” for limiting global warming to 1.5°C.

Previously the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change had said the world had nine or 10 years at current emission rates to have a 50% chance of hitting the 1.5°C target.
