Kallakis trial hears of forged signatures

The Serious Fraud Office has identified forged signatures on documents seized from the offices of Achilleas Kallakis and Alexander Williams, Southwark Crown Court heard this week.

The pair are facing several charges of fraud against Allied Irish Banks and Bank of Scotland. Both men are pleading not guilty.

One of the allegations refers to the fraudulent use of an investment grade property company’s name as a lease guarantor.

An SFO investigator told the court that he had compared “genuine and known-to-be-true signatures” with “questioned signatures” found on some documents associated with Kallakis’ company, Atlas Management.

Signatures analysed include Walter Kwok and Mike Wong, both of Hong Kong property developer Sun Hung Kai.

The court also heard this week that personal computer files seized by the SFO had exposed cracks in the relationship between Kallakis and Williams.

Handwritten notes, scanned in and saved on the Atlas hard drive by Williams, listed reasons to stay with the business and reasons to quit. Reasons to stay included a salary of between £300,000 and £400,000.

The papers also revealed Williams’ objections to being blamed for problems in the business.

One said: “I have basically being doing a number of things to get us out of the s**t. The companies are badly run… you want me to take the responsibility.”

Kallakis and Williams plead not guilty to all charges.

The case continues.
