Kavanagh dismissed from Liverpool head of regen role

Liverpool City Council has dismissed its head of regeneration Nick Kavanagh, as the council continues to battle widespread allegations of corruption in its property dealings.

Kavanagh was arrested alongside mayor Joe Anderson and three others last year on suspicion of conspiracy to commit bribery and witness intimidation.

None of those arrested have been charged and a Merseyside Police investigation into building and development contracts in the city is continuing.

The scandal has seen housing secretary Robert Jenrick step in, with the council forced to disclose all information regarding development proposals and planning.

Kavanagh has now left the council, following the city council’s appointments and disciplinary committee’s deliberation over his role.

In an unprecedented move, Jenrick is poised to step in and assume control of the Labour-led local authority.
