King’s College London has taken possession of the Mulberry Business Park at Canada Water , E14, for a new £100m campus.
KCL has consent from Southwark council for a 344,000 sq ft scheme comprising 770 student rooms, office space, affordable housing, shops and a healthcare centre.
Head of college administration and college secretary Ian Creagh said: “Our long-term vision is to create a development that will act as a hub for sustainable economic growth, active civil society and leading-edge scientific innovation.
“Canada Water offers an unparalleled opportunity for King’s and the London Borough of Southwark to create a vibrant, unique centre that will benefit our students and staff and make a positive economic, educational and cultural contribution to the local community. The Mulberry site development is the first stage in achieving this.”
A tender process for contractors will commence early in 2014. Construction work is to start over the summer, with completion planned for September 2016-17.
