Kent college project secures funding

money_coin_stack.jpegAshford Borough Council has agreed to provide a £1m loan for a new college campus in the town centre.

The council has already loaned £2m to the Hadlow College scheme and the full sum will be converted into a grant upon delivery of the first phase of the £16m project.

Completion of the Ashford International College Campus in Elwick Road is expected in September 2017, when the college will move its operations from its current site in Jemmett Road.

Phase one for the new college comprises a 50,000 sq ft scheme housing academic departments, a coffee shop and a general store.

Phase 1a will contain the technology and engineering block.

Mark Lumsdon-Taylor, Hadlow group director of finance and resources, said: “We are delighted that ABC is supporting this key project for Ashford. This is more than just a project for education, this is a symbol for the regeneration for the town and is a fundamental part of the Big 8 programme.”
