Kew Green Hotels has appointed investment bank Jefferies to review options for the business, including the option of a £400m sale.
The business, which is likely to be valued at more than £400m, has a 54-strong real estate portfolio.
Of these hotels, 45 are operated by the Holiday Inn franchise, and there are five Ramada hotels, a Crowne Plaza at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport and a Courtyard by Marriott at Gatwick Airport.
Kew Green also has 10 management contracts, the trophy assets being Brighton’s Grand Hotel and the Richmond Hill Hotel in south-west London, both of which are owned by Wittington Investments.
A spokesperson for Kew Green said: “Jefferies has been hired to review strategic options for the business, with a sale being considered.”
