Public sector workers are to be given interest-free loans to help them buy homes, as part of a new initiative to fight staff shortages in schools, hospitals and the police force.
Transport Secretary Stephen Byers is expected to announce the scheme, which will see key workers offered interest free loans of £10,000 to use as deposits, next week.
