Khan probes Olympic stadium refit

West-Ham-stadium-THUMB.jpegMayor of London Sadiq Khan has ordered an investigation into the rising costs of the redevelopment of London’s West Ham stadium, E20.

Former mayor Boris Johnson said in 2015 that the conversion from an Olympics arena to a football stadium would cost £272m, but that figure has now risen to £323m.

The investigation will look into a range of financial issues surrounding the conversion of the stadium for West Ham United, including the cost of moving the retractable seating.

West Ham’s former home at Upton Park, E13, was bought by Barratt earlier this year for a proposed 824-home development.

A mayor of London spokesman said the mayor’s office remained committed to the future of the stadium as a sporting and cultural facility.

He added: “The mayor is deeply concerned about the finances of the Olympic Stadium, which have clearly been left in a total and utter mess by the previous administration at City Hall.”
