Kier Property has been selected as the development partner for Surrey Heath Borough Council’s £200m regeneration of Camberley town centre.
It beat competition from a shortlist of four, including HUB, Berkeley and Countryside.
SHBC is seeking a mixed-use scheme on the 5.5-acre site, with a combination of residential, commercial and new public realm.
The development is located on the A30 London Road between the High Street and Park Street, opposite the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Karen Whelan, chief executive of SHBC, said: “The proposed scheme will completely transform a run-down area of the town centre and create a thriving new town square surrounded by a large mixed-use development, including retail, residential, parking and new outside space.”
Andrew Storey, managing director of Kier Property Regeneration, said: “We believe our proposals will provide vibrance to the town given the mixed-use nature of them, and we look forward to working alongside Karen Whelan and her team over the next few years to deliver our vision utilising all the skills of Kier Group.”
Work will now begin on surveying the site, with a planning application expected shortly.
SHBC has invested £140m into Camberley to date. This includes the acquisition and refurbishment of the Square shopping centre and the purchase of Ashwood House, a former office building that is being redeveloped into 116 flats. Projects to improve the town centre’s car parks are also in the pipeline.
Kier Property, the development arm of Kier Group, has delivered a variety of complex mixed-use spaces for Watford Borough Council, as well as managing Walworth Park in Andover for Test Valley Borough Council and working on schemes in a joint venture with Network Rail under its Solum brand in London.
