King’s Cross redevelopment ‘shouldn’t be rushed’

The redesign of King’s Cross station should not be rushed for the London 2012 Olympic Games, according to the government’s architectural watchdog.

Despite offering its qualified support for Network Rail’s proposed redesign of the station, CABE said that the John McAslan & Partners-designed scheme required more work.

“When completed, it should be a symbol of London’s status as a world-class city. The project suffers from too many compromises. It is desirable for the works to be completed before a certain two-week period in 2012 but not essential.”
