Work on a masterplan for a marina development in King’s Lynn is underway after an Urban Renaissance Development Strategy for the area was endorsed by the local council.
Funded by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, the East of England Development Agency, English Partnerships and Norfolk County Council, the strategy identified the need to reintegrate the town and waterfront area of the town.
The strategy, drawn up by architects Llewelyn Davies Yeang, contained schemes for four indicative development sites including the new marina. An economic feasibility study is also being undertaken for the scheme.
The plans will go out for public consultation in October and are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The council will create a partnership board to implement the strategy while undertaking further research into transport and open space and street scenes.
Mike George, economic regeneration manager at the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk said: “The strategy set a framework to guide the way the central core of the town is developed. It is an over arching document.”
Nick Daubney, deputy leader of the Borough Council of King’s Lynn and West Norfolk, said: “The plans for King’s Lynn will ensure the future of the town as a place where people choose to live, work, invest and visit.
“It is essential that the regeneration is sensitive to the town’s historic nature and I am convinced that the strategy satisfies that need”.
