King Sturge goes on a blind date for Red Nose Day

London’s West End restaurants will be awash with red noses and hormones next week as King Sturge staff hit the streets for their charity blind date.

The event will take place on Thursday 15 March, the night before Red Nose Day, and is going to be “a serious shindig”, according to organiser Rory Mepham. “It’s going to kick off with drinks at the Stratford Place office, and then we’ll go on to the restaurants, and finally to The Loop nightclub,” he said.

Bookings for 100 people have already been made at restaurants all over the West End, although the emphasis is on having a good time rather than finding your true love. “The bookings are each for four people, not two,” said Mepham. “There’s nothing worse than finding yourself stranded with someone you don’t get on with. Hopefully that won’t happen with four.”

So far sixty of the £10 tickets have been sold, and the organisers are confident that they will reach the 100 ticket target. “Interest was quite slow to pick up to begin with, but I don’t think we’ll have any trouble getting people to come along.”

Mepham believes that there will be a last-minute rush for the left-over tickets – “especially when they find out that we’ve got far more girls than guys at the moment”.

All the money from the tickets will go to Comic Relief, but Mepham suggested that charity wasn’t the only incentive for organising the event. “It’s basically an opportunity for a bit of fun. And as all the top boys will be off at MIPIM we’ve been given a bit of a free rein.”

The blind date was originally only for King Sturge staff, but Mepham says “the more who come along the merrier”. Staff from a number of other companies, notably Richard Ellis, DTZ, Savills, Weatheralls and Grosvenor, have also signed up to try their luck.

Anyone interested in getting involved should contact Rory Mepham at King Sturge’s Stratford Place office on 020 7 493 4933.
