Kingfisher, the struggling DIY retailer, has appointed a French supermarket executive as its new boss.
Thierry Garnier, 53, will leave Carrefour to replace Véronique Laury, also 53, as chief executive in the autumn.
Kingfisher owns B&Q and Screwfix in Britain, Castorama and Brico Dépôt outlets in France and has shops in Poland, Romania, Russia, Germany, Spain and Portugal. The company reported a 53 per cent fall in pre-tax profits to £322 million in the year to the end of January on sales up 0.3 per cent to £11.7 billion.
