Laurence Kirschel’s Consolidated Developments is on track to win planning consent for a major new theatre and hotel development in London’s Soho, WC2.
Ahead of a Westminster city council meeting on 13 May, council planners have recommended plans for a 322-seat theatre and 66-bed hotel at 5-9 Great Newport Street be approved.
The Sheppard Robson-designed scheme also includes a rehearsal studio, swimming pool, bar and restaurant.
The proposals are revised from 2012 plans, and now take views from the theatre industry further into consideration.
The scheme would replace a strip of existing properties used for offices and theatres and home to occupiers including the Arts Theatre Club.
Westminster’s planning subcommittee report said: “The applicants are seeking to provide a new ‘destination’ West End venue, which ideally combines a dining experience alongside a theatre experience.”
The planners said the plans were recommended for approval, but the subcommittee’s views were required on whether the enhanced theatre space outweighed the loss of office space.
