KKR and Hondo buy Highgate Studios

Private equity group KKR and developer Hondo Enterprises have bought Highgate Studios in Kentish Town, NW5.

The 210,000 sq ft office building, which traded for around £150m, according to a person familiar with the transaction, is home to video game developer Rocksteady Studios as well as software and digital engineering company Softwire.

The Victorian warehouse was a former Sanderson wallpaper factory and was owned by the Serlin family for decades.

KKR and Hondo will now reposition the asset with a focus on life sciences and are aiming to add more than 100,000 sq ft of extra space.

Taylor McWilliams, chief executive of Hondo, said: “We have set ourselves an early challenge of devising and delivering a programme of environmental and sustainability improvements, which are rightly expected by tenants and the wider community.

“We are beginning the process of engaging with tenants across the site to identify their future needs to continue operating successfully on the site.”

Harris Associates acted for KKR and Hondo; Pilcher London represented the vendor.
