Knight Frank prepares Met station sell offs

A swathe of police stations across the capital are being readied for sale by Knight Frank as the mayor of London Boris Johnson looks to plug a £250m budget black hole.

The agent will shortly launch the official marketing process for the disposal of Finchley Traffic Garage, Sidcup Police Station, DA15, Kingsbury, NW9, and the old police station at East Dulwich, SE22, after receiving a formal sign-off to market the properties.

Johnson has also revealed that a further 12 stations could soon be readied for sale.

Responding to a written question from Labour London Assembly member Joanne McCartney asking for a full list of police buildings that have been identified for closure and or disposal, Johnson said he had agreed “in principle” to dispose of a further 12 stations in 2012-13.

These include stations in Barking, IG11, Willesden Green, Orpington, BR6, South Norwood, Ealing, Southgate, Wealdstone, East Ham, E6, Highbury Vale, N5, Richmond, Rotherhithe, and Lavender Hill.

The mayor said further approval would be sought before the second tranche of stations was formally marketed.

Knight Frank head of public sector, James Leaver, said: “Knight Frank is appointed to sell the sites in Finchley, Sidcup, East Dulwich and Kingsbury which have been approved for disposal and are a part of the 12-13 disposal programme.

“They are being advertised in Estates Gazette this weekend. As the Met’s retained corporate real estate advisers, we are engaged in a range of activities, but I am afraid I am not at liberty to comment specifically on individual locations.”
