Krispy Kreme plans new outlets

American doughnut retailer Krispy Kreme is to open three new coffee bars as part of its UK growth strategy.

It will open a 200 sq ft coffee bar on a five-year lease at Westfield Stratford City and 1,100 sq ft on a 10-year lease at Aviva Investors and Multi Developments’ Southgate scheme in Bath, both in September. It will also open a 800 sq ft bar at British Land and London & Stamford Properties’ Meadowhall shopping centre in Sheffield on a five-year lease in October.

Krispy Kreme, which currently operates 43 stores in the UK, aims to double its UK stores by 2016. It is particularly focusing on acquisitions in the Yorkshire region and is eyeing up stores in cities including Leeds, York, Hull and Harrogate.

Rob Hunt, joint managing director at Krispy Kreme, said: “We’re committed to a growth strategy that will see us build a significantly greater presence both on the high street and out of town over the next four years. We offer a unique treat for our customers, and that’s reflected in the response we receive – at our recent Leeds opening we were amazed to see over 20 people camping overnight to be there for opening day.”

Morgan Williams advises Krispy Kreme.
