House prices rose for a second straight month in July, taking the average to a new record high of £211,671, figures from Nationwide show.
Prices rose 0.3% on the month. On the year, house price growth slowed to 2.9% from 3.1% in June and 5.2% in the year-earlier period.
A lack of homes on the market appears to be supporting prices, a situation that is likely to continue in the near term, according to Nationwide chief economist Robert Gardner.
