The terraced homes of Whitefield, in Nelson, Lancashire, are at the heart of a struggle to preserve a valuable part of Britain’s Victorian heritage.
Residents say they are still perfectly serviceable but the government wants to pull down the terraces of Lancashire Mill Towns, as part of deputy prime minister John Prescott’s Pathfinder Initiative and Sustainable Communities Plan.
