Land Registry worker jailed

A Land Registry office worker who helped a gang steal homes from the elderly and vulnerable has been jailed.

Surjeet Chana, 64, of Purley, Surrey, supplied documents to the gang using her position in the south Croydon Land Registry office. The documents mean the gang was able to pretend to be the owners of empty homes and could sell them on to third parties. At least £5m of properties in London were sold in two years. Chana was sentenced to three years, nine months.
