Land Rover to spend £40m linking Solihull plant with West Coast mainline

BMW and its Land Rover division hope to spend £40m on a new railway linking Land Rover’s Solihull plant near Birmingham with the West Coast mainline.

A formal application is expected to be lodged in August with a view to operating the 2.5-mile line early in 2002.

The scheme would allow Land Rover to send more than 100,000 vehicles each year to the Continent via the Channel tunnel or to the US and other overseas markets by shipment from Southampton.
