LandAid Day: the outer limits

Landaid-day-15

Property and construction companies across more than 12 cities took part in an array of colourful fundraising activities to support LandAid Day.

Paragon Building Consultancy had perhaps the most bonkers idea: its staff attempted to break the world record of 17 Jaffa Cakes eaten in one minute. Though the contestants made a brave effort, they fell short, and nine of the spongy treats was the maximum consumed.

Levy Real Estate went all out, transforming its office into a budget airline for the day. Staff who boarded LevyJet were charged for everything from booking meeting rooms and making coffee to
turning up late and using the lift.

And never one to shy away from a LandAid challenge, Helical Bar chief executive Mike Slade transformed himself into Buzz Lightyear and pedalled along the streets of Mayfair with his colleagues, who were dressed as astronauts and aliens.

LandAid chief executive Paul Morrish said: “That so many people, from all levels of seniority and from such a wide array of companies, took time out on LandAid Day to have fun helping raise funds to support LandAid’s work underscores both the industry’s generosity and its commitment to tackling disadvantage, as well as the unique relationship the industry has with its own charity, LandAid.”

Firms that also embraced the LandAid Day tradition included Carter Jonas, whose directors were subjected to the stocks outside One Chapel Place, W1, and pelted with wet sponges.

Bilfinger GVA’s Gresham Street office was converted into a crazy golf course, with chief executive Rob Bould hosting senior partners from other firms to play the six-hole urban green.

Knight Frank, Bellenden and Pinsent Masons joined in the day’s activities, doing everything from cake bakes to abseiling challenges, trekking, “walking the Monopoly board” and a sponsored silence.

The fundraising total looks set to top £100,000 to support disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
