Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is “highly unlikely” to meet its 2017 target for a new stadium following a new legal challenge from an N17 landlord.
The Premier League club will be caught up in a case between Archway Sheet Metal Works and the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG), which gave the all-clear in July for Spurs to remove the firm from its land .
Archway Sheet Metal Works has applied to challenge the decision at the High Court.
Spurs said it needs the business to move in order to develop a new 56,250-seat stadium next to its existing White Hart Lane ground.
A Spurs spokesman said: “Given the lengthy period of time taken to reach the CPO decision in the first place, we should like to advise supporters that it is highly unlikely we shall be able to open the new stadium at the start of the 2017/2018 season.”
As a result, the north London club will have to play all of its home matches away from White Hart Lane for one season.
The spokesman added: “We are undertaking due diligence on alternative stadium options. Consideration needs to be given to several factors, including planning and policing and, importantly, our fans and the impact it may have on the team itself.”
