St John’s Beacon, a Liverpool landmark, is set for a new lease of life as a radio station.
The 125m (409ft) tower, owned by Land Securities, will be converted into one of the world’s most advanced radio stations for Radio City.
The £3.5m conversion is being carried out by Norwest Holst and will feature five digital studios, office space and a viewing area. It will be the first time in 16 years that the tower has been in active use since the closure of a platform restaurant.
Alf Strange, director of Land Securities, said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing the Beacon in use again, playing a major part in Liverpool’s city life.”
