Plymouth council has put the city’s tallest building on the market.
The council is seeking a partner to bring forward a circa £35m redevelopment of its listed civic centre at Armada Way.
The local authority has been considering a sale of the rundown 15-storey office block for several years, but finally launched a search for a developer this week.
The building was listed in 2007 by the department for Culture, Media and Sport against the council’s wishes, scuppering plans to demolish it and redevelop the site.
However, the local authority has this week issued an OJEU notice seeking either a full exit from the block or a sale and leaseback of part of the site, which includes an adjacent 108-space car park.
The 50-year-old tower, which occupies a pivotal site in the Devonshire city, has potential for a residential or commercial redevelopment.
Plymouth council said it was selling the site because it was in poor physical condition and no longer met its requirements.
Interested parties have until 5 October to submit bids for the block. Around four parties will then be shortlisted.
