LandSec and Crown Estate plan leisure quarter at Westgate Oxford

LandSec and the Crown Estate plan to develop a leisure quarter for their £440m Westgate Oxford retail scheme.

The leisure quarter, Westgate Social, will be anchored by mini-golf company Junkyard Golf Club and include six restaurants. Confirmed brands so far include Mexican restaurant Benito’s Hat, Indian street food vendor Rola Walak, and Shawa Lebanese Grill.

The new quarter will part of the ground floor of the 800,000 sq ft development, which will open on 24 October.

Recently confirmed retail tenants include Timberland and Vans, as well as British retailers Neal’s Yard Remedies, Hobbs, Oliver Bonas and Loake Shoemakers.

Chris Legh, co-founder of Junkyard Golf Club, said: “We have a huge space to play with so we’re going to fit in three courses, with crazy installations, like the Nicholas Cage-themed Lion’s Den and Clown holes and some awesome bars. Look out for slides, cars, boats and of course the usual UV and jungle madness.”

Emma Mees, senior portfolio manager at LandSec, said: “With Westgate Social, we aim to lead the charge for next-generation retail destinations by bringing our scheme in line with the rapidly changing lifestyle habits of UK and global consumers.

“Junkyard Golf Club is an innovative brand that has responded to customers’ increasing demand for high-quality, unique experiences. We’re excited to have them on board, along with the other six world-class retailers we have announced today.”
