LandSec selected for 700-acre Kent housing scheme

Land Securities is to work up plans for a 6,000 unit housing scheme on Ministry of Defence land in Chattenden, Kent, EGi News has learned.

Defence Estates, the MoD’s property arm, picked LandSec yesterday ahead of shortlisted rivals John Laing and St Modwen.

The 700-acre Lodge Hill barracks site is located close to LandSec’s giant Ebbsfleet regeneration scheme in Kent and is further evidence of the developer’s increased focus on residential-led projects.

Under the terms of the partnership, which is similar to St Modwen/Vinci’s MODEL arrangement with the MoD, LandSec will guide the project through the planning system.

In return, LandSec will take a share of the money raised by the sale of the site as individual plots of land with planning consent.

Knight Frank advised Defence Estates. LandSec was advised by CB Richard Ellis.
