LandSec sells Maidstone Army & Navy site

Land Securities has sold the former 35,000 sq ft Army & Navy department store in Maidstone, Kent, to Kilmerlin Danesmount for £3m.

Land Securities has sold the freehold on the store at 69-77 Week Street, where Kilmerlin Danesmount intends to redevelop the site with retail at ground, basement and first floors and residential on the upper floors.

The building formed part of Land Securities’ purchase of the Fremlin Walk Shopping Centre from developer Centros Miller.

Graeme Stevenson, portfolio manager at Land Securities, said: “This building was purchased as part of the Fremlin Walk development to unlock the relocation for House of Fraser into a 120,000 sq ft store at Fremlin Walk.

“However, with this objective achieved, the building is no longer of strategic importance to us and we have decided to dispose of this freehold property.”

Leslie Furness acted on behalf of Land Securities, while the purchasers were advised by Hartnell Taylor Cook.
