LandSec submits second phase Corby plans

Land Securities has submitted a planning application for Evolution Corby, a retail-led mixed-use development in Corby, Northamptonshire, which forms the second phase of development in the town.

Land Securities opened the £35m first phase, Willow Place, in October last year, and now wants to add a further 450,000 sq ft.

Plans include 330,185 sq ft of retail floorspace, a 120, 000 sq ft anchor store, an 8,000 sq ft sports facility, 350 apartments and two new car parks providing a total of 1,600 parking spaces.

The development covers two sites. The main site is located in the south of the town centre and takes in the former bus station and the existing multi-storey car park.

The second, smaller site is centred around the Volunteer Bureau to the north of the main site.

The 175,000 sq ft Willow Place is anchored by TK Maxx, and other tenants include New Look, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Evans, River Island and Jane Norman.

Subject to planning approval, construction work on ‘Evolution Corby’, which has been designed by Chapman Taylor Architects, could begin as early as 2010 with completion in 2012.
