Landsec works out Sweaty Betty deals

Landsec has completed leasing deals with activewear brand Sweaty Betty at three of its retail locations in London, Oxford and Portsmouth.

The retailer has opened stores measuring nearly 6,000 sq ft in total in recent weeks. These include a 1,700 sq ft outlet at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, which opened last month.

The brand’s newest central London location opened earlier in the autumn in Victoria, SW1, (pictured) measuring 2,250 sq ft.

In Oxford, Sweaty Betty relocated from its former city centre location into Westgate, upsizing to a 2,000 sq ft space on the lower ground floor. Further terms were not disclosed.

Landsec said the latest deals follow separate multi-site agreements with Adidas, which expanded their presence across Landsec’s outlet destinations earlier this year.

The owner added that the deals formed part of its “customer centric” retail strategy, which focuses on providing occupiers with a single point of contact.

Landsec head of retail brand account management Nik Porter said: “Brands are focused on expanding into high-performing spaces in flagship, catchment-dominant destinations.

“Our new strategy allows us to work with a brand like Sweaty Betty holistically to find the right spaces across our portfolio of prime destinations so that they can flourish.”

Sweaty Betty chief operating officer Mark Smith said: “We’re focused on growth, so being in the right location and meeting shoppers where they are is key. Westgate and Gunwharf Quays, in particular, are the premier retail destinations in their region, making them the obvious choice when we were looking to expand.”

Sweaty Betty has also launched stores in several other locations in recent weeks, including a 2,400 sq ft store at Battersea Power Station, SW8, and a debut store in Northern Ireland with a shop at Belfast’s Victoria Square.
