Land Securities has won a compulsory purchase order that will allow it to build its £100m Filmworks cinema scheme in Ealing, W5.
The development will include a 1,000-seat cinema at the heart of a new west London “film quarter” connecting Walpole Park, Bond Street and Ealing Broadway with a new public square, shops, restaurants and housing.
A planning application was submitted back in 2008 for the redevelopment of the cinema and retail units.
But although permission was granted and the majority of the cinema was demolished, the development was not completed.
Land Securities was chosen by Ealing council in 2012 to continue developing the site.
Now that the CPO has been confirmed, construction is expected to start in 2016, with Picturehouse Cinemas showing its first screening in 2018.
