Lateral and HIG have secured planning permission from Tower Hamlets Council for the redevelopment of 100-136 Cavell Street, E1.
The developer acquired the site in March 2022 in an off-market deal https://www.egi.co.uk/news/lateral-plans-whitechapel-life-sciences-hub/ and tabled plans to knock down the existing building and construct a 160,000 sq ft life sciences facility.
Designed by Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, the scheme will comprise laboratory space, a café, cycle storage and landscaping.
Rob Beacroft, co-founder at Lateral, told Estates Gazette: “Securing planning permission for Cavell Street is a milestone in our mission to establish Whitechapel as a life sciences cluster. This development will deliver incubator and grow-on space in partnership with Queen Mary Bioenterprises, providing a launchpad for the next generation of life sciences companies.”
Earlier this year, Queen Mary agreed a prelet of 37,000 sq ft in the building to BioEnterprises Innovation Centre. https://www.egi.co.uk/news/lateral-strikes-prelet-at-whitechapels-life-sciences-cluster/
Beacroft added: “We look forward to working closely with Barts Life Sciences to secure major industry occupiers and Barts Health NHS Trust to ensure the scheme aligns with the Royal London’s therapeutic priorities, fostering innovation that directly benefits patient care and the wider community.”
