Law firm Shoosmiths is in advanced talks for what would be Birmingham’s largest office letting this year.
The company is looking to take 40,000 sq ft at the 158,000 sq ft Nurton Development-owned office block 2 Colmore Square. It is understood that the law firm will pay just under £25 per sq ft. Shoosmiths had shortlisted two schemes to house its Birmingham operation with Carlyle Group’s Colmore Plaza the alternative.
Shoosmiths partner and Birmingham head of office Jason Jackson, said: “We’re negotiating heads of terms and have not yet exchanged contracts. If things go to plan, we aim to have completed the move by summer 2013.”
The law firm is based at EPIC UK’s 125 Colmore Row office block where it occupies 32,000 sq ft at circa £25 per sq ft.
The move is a welcome tonic for Nurton, which came close to signing the Law Society in December last year before the occupier changed its mind and instead took 57,000 sq ft at the Cube.
GVA and CBRE are letting agents on 2 Colmore Square.
